The Andean Cock-of-the-rock is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and charismatic Neotropical birds, and this fieldtrip will allow close-up views of this bird at an active lek. A lek is an aggregation of males that gather to engage in competitive displays to entice visiting females, a show we recommend you don’t miss. The lek is located in the property that is to become the Andean Cock-of-the-rock reserve, so the trip will also be a great opportunity to get acquainted with the project. Other species of interest we might encounter include two endemic species: Crested Ant-tanager and Multicolored Tanager. Another spectacular species that is possible is Blue-naped Chlorophonia, and groups of Green Jay often make an appearance. Booted Rackettail, Golden-naped Tanager and Bay-headed Tanager are other targets that will surely impress you.
