Seventy-seven species of birds can be observed at the zoo, of which 70 are native to Colombia. The zoo also is home to a spectacular aviary, representing tropical rainforests, wetlands and grasslands. The aviary holds 68 individuals belonging to 27 different species.
The Colombia Birdfair also shares a similar vision with the Unicentro Cali. Founded in 1981, Unicentro has positioned itself as a space in which visitors can find it all: the finest shops, family fun, cultural activities, nature and lots of fun. Unicentro offers the most varied, entertaining and interesting options in the southern end of Cali, and at the same time is a place where art, culture and the environment are a norm.
Unicentro is home to 497 trees, including rain trees that are more than 100 years old, chiminangos, manilas and palm trees. Thanks to the natural landscape it lies within, more than 40 species of birds have been spotted within the Unicentro campus. This provides for a unique environmental and social experience for visitors.
Unicentro will host the Birders Bazaar, offering cultural and artistic activities for families that will surely captivate and educate both locals and visitors to the amazing avian diversity in the region. During Bird Month (January 15 – February 15, 2015), Unicentro will also host the photographic exhibit entitled “The Birds of the Cauca Valley, that nobody should miss. The business round table and special area dedicated to stands will provide a space for businesses and organizations from Colombia and around the world to showcase their products, services, and conservation and education projects related to birding and conservation. Tourism agencies, tour operators, environmental and community organizations, optics manufacturers and distributors, and businesses that offer products related to birding will meet to promote conservation and bird tourism in Colombia.
