¿What is a carbón footprint?

A carbon footprint is an indicator of the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) generated and emitted by a certain activity. It is measured in tons of carbon dioxide (t CO2 e).

¿Why is CO2 a Greenhouse Gas?

CO2 is a greenhouse gas because it stores the heat that is radiated by Earth. For this reason, it is considered the main culprit in accelerating global warming. This gas is naturally produced by our planet, but humans also generate it in large quantities. Some human activities that increase the CO2 in our atmosphere include the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation.

¿Why is it important to measure an events carbon footprint?

All human activities have an environmental impact. Taking into account the carbon footprint of the Colombia Birdfair is very important in order to minimize the environmental impact of the fair.

TIPS TO REDUCE YOUR CARBON EMISSIONS DURING THE FESTIVAL

How are you getting here? Riding your bike, taking the bus or walking will help reduce CO2 emissions and help mitigate climate change.
Help mitigate climate change. Turn off lights and appliances when they are not in use. By doing this, you can reduce your carbón footprint by 190 lbs of CO2 per year.
Reuse – Reduce – Recycle. By making the three R’s part of your life, you reduce your carbón footprint because you are minimizing the extraction of natural resources and the use of fossil fuels.
Be a responsible consumer. A responsible consumer reutilizes containers , prefers reusable cloth bags when shopping and prefers local products. We will have plenty of local goodies at the birdfair and cloth bags available for your shopping needs!
Plant a tree. Your CO2 emissions can be reduced by planting a tree. If you do decide to plant a tree, make sure it is a native species and follow the recommendations for planting.
